On behalf of the faculty and staff of the Herberger Institute at Arizona State University, I invite you to explore the exciting educational opportunities offered by the Bachelor of Arts in Design Studies.
The Herberger Institute created the BA in Design Studies because it recognized that many students wanted to study design but did not necessarily want to become architects, designers, or planners. Who are these people? They are potential design historians, for example, who wish to study and teach design history. Or perhaps students interested in design management careers in business operations, sales, or marketing for architecture, design, or planning firms. Or students interested in exploring the
ways our digitally mediated environments are changing our experience and evolving our culture. Or students who wish to pursue graduate education in design, such as Master of Architecture, Master of Landscape Architecture, or Master of Science in Design degrees.
Based on this underlying premise, the Herberger Institute offers a four-year, nonstudio program that provides an undergraduate education. Students may choose to complete a focus area or one of two concentrations:
- Digital Culture Focus Area
- Design Management Concentration
- Design Studies Concentration
These areas of study provide an interdisciplinary, nonstudio education in design.
Please take a few moments to explore the many features and benefits of the BA in Design Studies. You can easily do that via our Web site. Or, if you have specific questions related to the program, please contact us at the Herberger Institute Office of Student Success.
We wish you a successful educational journey in the Herberger Institute.
