FULTON CHALLENGE

Match Your Investment in the

College of Design by Participating

in the Fulton Challenge

The 2005 Fulton Challenge resulted in donations from faculty, alumni, staff, and students contributing $53,852 to the College of Design. This amount was generously matched by Mr. Ira Fulton resulting in the college receiving a total of $107,704 to the Dean’s Investment Fund. It is our intention to use the discretionary funds to develop outreach publications and materials that bring attention to the good work of the college that will shape the region in a positive manner.

Case in point—an architecture studio and a planning studio collaborated on research and a report about Arizona’s State Capitol Mall so that attention for improving the area might be mounted in time for Arizona's Centennial in 2012. The publication of this effort is in the hands of the legislature, business, and neighborhood communities who are now implementing one of the students' ideas—a Flag Walk for Washington Street from 7th Ave to Wesley Bolin Plaza. This is but one demonstration of the power of ideas if properly presented.

The success of last year’s challenge has resulted in a new Fulton Challenge in 2006. The College of Design set a goal of $20,000 to be raised by June 30, 2006. This goal will only be accomplished by the continued generous giving from the ASU “family,” which includes alumni, faculty, staff, students, and now, the parents of current ASU students. Mr. Fulton’s goal is to inspire charitable giving among those most closely affiliated with the college and to help create a culture of philanthropy at ASU. His philosophy is inspiring and contagious.

From February 1, 2006 through June 30, 2006, Mr. Fulton will match gifts from the ASU family, up to $5,000 per gift, to the Dean’s Investment Fund to the College of Design.

Gifts can be made by cash, check, credit card, or payroll deduction. In any case, the Dean’s Investment Fund or a similar account should be indicated as the designated account. Checks should be made payable to the ASU Foundation. Indicate “Fulton Challenge” on the memo line.

Gifts made by faculty and staff through payroll deduction may be counted as long as they are not being made as a pledge to an existing fund or project. In order to be credited, the designation must be changed to the Dean’s Investment Fund. Please contact sharon.haugen@asu.edu to receive a payroll deduction form.

All gifts will be matched dollar for dollar up to $5,000. Multiple gifts from the same donor will not be counted. However, gifts from other family members who have a university connection are acceptable.
