(2007)
In fall 2006, in collaboration with the College of Design Exhibitions Committee, PURL sponsored Unintended Consequences, an exhibition exploring the unexpectedly deleterious effects of rules and regulations intended to protect our safety and enhance our environment. The topics were diverse and included presentations of the unintended consequences of setbacks, signage, street width, emergency egress, universal access, tax increment financing, historic preservation, overlay zoning, parking lots, traffic flow, household type, playground design, landscape buffers, building materials, and over-the-counter drug labels. Contributors were drawn from ASU College of Design faculty and PhD students, and community members concerned with the impact of regulation on zoning, sustainability, and housing.
An exhibition book with essays from each contributor was published in the summer 2007. The book is not on sale to the general public, however, a listing of contributors and essays is presented below. A pdf version of the book will be available online at this webpage in fall 2007.
