ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
First,
credit goes to Bill Gallagher, who conceived of a residence built
for the desert climate, researched the appropriate materials and
technology, and took it upon himself to build it. He spent the most
part of four years on the site. Helmut Feustel of Lawerence Berkeley
Lab gave early encouragement for using the radiant technology. Wolfgang
and Margot Schmid of Munich helped obtain the capillary tube ceiling.
Joerg Quittek of Riesselmann, Gmbh supplied the ceiling system that
has performed extremely well. Mike Chiles of Heatway/Watts also
gave early encouragement and provided the floor system and the pump
panel. Dr. Birol Kilkis gave valuable technical advice in sizing
the systems. Mac Word supplied the fluid cooler which dramatically
improved heat pump performance. Members of ASHRAE Technical Committee,
Dick Watson, Morry Markel, Kirby Chapman, Peter Simmonds, Dr. Rick
Strand and Dr. Dan Fisher gave continuous encouragement and support.
Alex Bonham of National Instruments resolved data collection problems.
Dave Katzer and Rick Slack of Johnson Controls provided the initial
control system support. Marlin Addison provided assistance in simulation.
Dallas Kingsbury of the ASU School of Engineering was generous with
his data collection expertise. Katherine Hammack provided encouragement
and was a valuable ally.
The successful completion is due in large part to Johnson Controls,
and in particular to Skip Peterson for continuous improvement of
the control system and program. David Tait provided assistance in
the instrumentation. Ernest Duskey of Arizona State University facility
management provided technical assistance, and College computing
support was provided by John Murnane, Dennis Wharton and Ellie Large.
Work of previous graduate students in the MS in Building Design
Program (Energy Concentration) at Arizona State University was crucial.
They included: Maneesh Dwivedi, Mona Chandra, Xin He, Abhijeet Pande,
Vedhathiri Arunkumar, Vinay Ghatti, Amit Bhargava, Alpana Jain,
Eeshoo Rehani, and Vamshi Gooje- all contributed to the progress
of the project. And finally and not least, great credit for the
success of the project goes to the homeowner, Patsy Miller, for
her patience and the opening of her house to a multitude of visitors,
students and workers.
