
In 2005, Graphic Design Program within School of Design at College of Architecture and Environmental Design turned a new page. First, the college renewed its name to College of Design. The new name signifies breadth and depth of design issues, practices, and research that the College embraces. Second, the Graphic Design Program renewed its name to Department of Visual Communication Design. This combined effort sought to address evolving design challenges of the twenty first century. Global considerations of human relevancy, ecological sustainability, and advancing technology, steer the shaping of design artifacts and environments in today’s world deeply affected by the process globalization.

Mission
The Department of Visual Communication Design embraces traditional and contemporary design methodologies in its teaching, research, and practice in order to educate design students who will engage in ways that are professionally, socially, commercially, environmentally, and globally conscious.
